The KMIT is the shotgun capsule for the modular Colette series. It is derived directly from the CMIT series and inherits its acoustic properties, such as the high directivity combined with low coloration of sound arriving from the side and the directivity that increases very evenly with frequency. In use, the KMIT, CMIT 5, and MiniCMIT can be interchanged without resulting in changes to the sound.
The KMIT brings the unparalleled acoustic qualities of the CMIT series to the modular Colette series. It is compatible with all amplifiers of the Colette series, i.e., with the current analog amplifiers CMC 6 and CMC 1, as well as with the digital amplifier CMD 42. This means that SCHOEPS now offers a digital shotgun that can be controlled with the Remote App for the first time.
The characteristics of the KMIT capsule are only slightly dependent on the amplifier used. The sound of the KMIT is essentially the same with any amplifier as in the CMIT 5/MiniCMIT. The choice between CMC 6, CMC 1 U/L, or CMD 42 is consequently determined by the practical characteristics, i.e., the size and weight of the setup and the availability of an AES42 interface.
Schoeps generally recommends the CMC 1 analog amplifier due to its small size, optimum interference protection, and high dynamic range. The CMC 1 L amplifier with miniature Lemo socket is an optimally small setup, while the CMC 1 U has a standard XLR socket.
The CMC 6 analog amplifier is also compatible with the CMC 6xt version, allowing content up to 40 kHz to be recorded for down-pitching applications in sound design.
The CMD 42 digital amplifier offers the most options but requires an AES42 interface. The CMD's Remote App (available free of charge for iOS or Android phones) allows all three filters of the CMIT 5 to be enabled in the CMD 42 as well.
- Rotationally symmetrical polar pattern
- also suitable for music recording
- compatible with all Colette amplifiers - a digital shotgun is offered in combination with the CMD 42
- based on CMIT generation D: capsule is moisture-resistant
The KMIT is the first capsule with an interference tube in the 50-year history of SCHOEPS’ Colette series. The triumphant success of Schoeps shotgun microphone began in 2005 with the CMIT 5, which is still considered the industry standard today. During development, great importance was attached to the uniform off-axis frequency response. Known to connoisseurs as “the blue one”, the microphone has since become a trademark of professional film sound engineering. Its capsule was used in two other microphones: the smaller, lighter MiniCMIT (2016) and the digital SuperCMIT (2010) with its two selectable, extremely narrow polar patterns, which are created by an additional rear-facing capsule and digital signal processing. The development of the KMIT is the next logical step: the fusion of the two most important Schoeps series, Colette and CMIT.
