Broadcast Radio & Television
RADIO
A picture without sound is “technical difficulties”, but sound without a picture is radio…
We specialise in studio installations and whether it is a Community, College or Commercial - single or multiroom facility we can help you plan, build and create a purpose built controlled environment where content such as music programmes, interviews, news, and live talk shows can be produced, managed and broadcast to a professional standard.
At the heart of the studio is a Computer-based system for automation, play-out, recording, and scheduling. This system manages the music libraries, jingles, advertisements, and programme logging. Additional equipment may include telephone hybrids or VoIP systems for call-ins, digital recorders, red “on-air” lights, and backup systems to ensure uninterrupted broadcasting.
Everything is connected to a Broadcast console or mixing desk, which controls the microphones, music playback, phone calls, and other audio sources.
Professional Microphones are mounted on adjustable arms and positioned for presenters and guests, along with headphones for accurate monitoring. Studio monitors (speakers) provide additional reference listening when microphones are not live.
For program making, content creation, documentaries and reporting, we supply a vast range of Location equipment – e.g., mics, recorders, headphones – always favouring professional quality, reliable, industry-standard equipment that sounds great and lasts, leaving you to concentrate on capturing the content you want. Our commitment to quality ensures that you can trust in the reliability and performance of the equipment.
When it’s time to edit and construct your story, show or ad, we offer a range of Computer-based production systems, including voice-over recording, sound design and effects and restoration software.
And finally the studio is Acoustically treated with sound-absorbing panels and isolation measures to minimise noise and external interference. This ensures clean, intelligible audio regardless of whether the programme is live or recorded. A soundproofed environment also allows for consistent broadcast quality at all times of day.

Studio
Presenters, interviewers, guests, bands, musicians, audience participants, and comperes all require Microphones—wired, wireless, or a combination of both—to perform effectively. We offer a comprehensive range of microphones, including lavalier, handheld, headset, and boundary types, each selected with the appropriate pickup pattern for the application.
Audio signals are mixed and routed to multiple destinations through Audio Mixing Consoles, both analogue and digital. These support on-air broadcast mixes, front-of-house PA for live audiences (such as game shows), monitor mixes for artists and presenters, and recording or archiving.
We also supply fully equipped Editing Suites featuring non-linear editing systems for post-production, including video editing, sound mixing, and graphics insertion.
The AV infrastructure forms the backbone of audio and video distribution. Robust AV protocols are essential to ensure consistency, quality, bandwidth, and reliability throughout the studio workflow.
Equipment schematics, Cable schedules, and Wiring diagrams are designed around the studio workflow to ensure seamless integration of all systems, enabling content to flow efficiently and reach its destination without obstruction.
Outside Broadcast
An Outside Broadcast (OB) Unit is a mobile facility designed to deliver live or recorded television content from locations beyond the traditional studio environment. OB units play a vital role in covering live events such as sports, concerts, news, and entertainment, bringing audiences closer to the action while maintaining the high production standards expected of broadcast television.
While operating on location, OB units share many of the same core components and technical requirements as a fixed TV studio..
Microphones are essential for capturing and broadcasting audio in an outside broadcast environment. Due to the challenges of working outdoors, microphones often require additional accessories to mitigate weather and environmental conditions, including windshields, boom poles, and rain protection. At Big Bear Sound, we offer an extensive range of location-specific equipment and accessories to ensure reliable performance in all conditions.
Audio mixing is handled through a Broadcast audio console that provides both monitor mixes and on-air programme feeds. Digital mixing consoles are typically preferred in OB units due to their compact footprint and flexibility within a limited space.
Whether operating in a studio or on an outside broadcast, we supply and support a wide range of solutions, including:
• Storage solutions
• Media asset management
• Monitoring (Stereo, 5.1, and Atmos)
• Loudness metering
• Routers and switchers
• Players and recorders
Our expertise ensures seamless integration and reliable performance across both studio and outside broadcast environments.
