Full windshield consisting of the suspension set X-SET-CMXY adapted for the Schoeps CMXY 4V Ug (XLR5), the wind set Z-WIND and the security belt BELT-CMXY. The swivel setting has to be straight for a correct positioning of the capsules in the centre of the volume.
Thus, the windshield has to be handled vertically for a frontal recording direction.
The suspension set is quickly unscrewed from the cage for an immediate indoor use.
ZEPHYX is the first windshield that integrates a suspension device that ensures effective vibration decoupling from the main cage (2005 patent). All subsequent CINELA windshields, also integrate this device as an essential complement to the internal microphone suspension.
ZEPHYX has the particularity of being the only CINELA brand windshield with a removable cage, with a large volume, and therefore allows a quick indoor/outdoor switch.
With a general ovoid shape, much shorter than PIANO and PIANISSIMO, ZEPHYX was initially designed for a small MS pair of Schoeps CCM4/CCM8 and was then adapted to a whole range of other mono, MS, Double MS or specific microphones (XY, Ambisonic,…).
Equipped with its long-haired fur, its shape becomes more spherical and therefore a little less “readable” for a boom operator who needs accurate visual aiming when recording mono at the end of a long pole. In this case, it is advisable to choose a windshield from the PIANO, PIANISSIMO or COSI ranges! However, its large diameter (18cm) gives it a superior wind efficiency when using SHORT mono microphones (less than 10-12cm) well placed in the centre of the volume!
The advantage of its removable cage means that there are some constraints:
- less versatility because each complete suspension “block” is dedicated to a particular microphone or configuration.
- the suspension block, because of its dual use, is less compact than OSIX and even less than E-OSIX.
- the wiring is entirely dedicated to one configuration, whether monophonic, stereophonic or else.
Compared to the longer PIANISSIMO, whose volume is the closest, ZEPHYX accepts a smaller choice of microphones and configurations.
ZEPHYX is optimised for short MS microphone pairs (or compact DMS) and also fits Mono microphones up to 15cm in length.
ZEPHYX was developed as a natural continuation of the OSIX suspension since it integrates, inside its suspended cage, a suspension block derived from the OSIX range. This block (referenced X-SET-xxx), freed from its wind cage, can by itself replace an OSIX suspension for most of the microphones admitted in ZEPHYX, with a maximum size of 15cm.
The cage suspension device is composed of a cross fixed to a central axis integral with the support, the ends of which have semi-elliptical isolators embedded in four points of the cage. This wide-based suspension, located inside the useful volume, is completed by a bellows having the function of flexible and tight interface between the fixing axis and the “floating” cage.
ZEPHYX always incorporates a two-axis, single-clamp swivel, which is very practical for stereo recording.
The shortened XLR, integral with the swivel, is held by an M5 pointed hex screw and is easily released without loosening the cap, in particular to allow the removal of the bellows.
Because of its ovoid shape with a spherical tendency, the windproof fabric is two-tone to improve visual aiming when ZEPHYX is at the end of the pole. The complementary furs (synthetic) are also available in a two-tone black-grey version. On request, it is possible to order the furs in monochrome black or grey.
The first layer of wind protection (Z-COVER) is a technical jersey made of double-layer 3D mesh in two colours: grey and matte black. This fabric offers a perfect acoustic transparency and allows to face light to medium winds.
The additional fur, to be added over the primary fabric, is available in long (standard) or short pile to enhance the microphone’s insulation against harsh wind conditions!
