Whole-Home Audio-Visual Installation in a 19th-Century Country House, Co. Offaly

As part of a major renovation to a stunning early 19th-century country house in County Offaly, Big Bear Sound was brought in to design and install a modern, fully integrated audio-visual system that complements the elegance of the home’s Victorian heritage.

The homeowners wanted a high-quality music system installed throughout the main house and its outbuildings, with equipment that would remain visually unobtrusive and sympathetic to the period style of the property.

We installed a Sonos wireless music system, giving the clients seamless control of their audio from any room in the house. To keep everything tidy and out of sight, a central equipment rack was fitted in the basement’s original cellar, housing amplifiers, network switches and power management systems.

In several formal rooms, we installed Bowers & Wilkins floor-standing speakers, powered by Rotel amplifiers, providing rich, detailed sound with a timeless look.

For the open-plan kitchen and dining area, we used flush-mounted Genelec ceiling speakers that deliver outstanding sound quality while blending effortlessly into the architecture.

The main living room features a wall-mounted LCD TV and a Genelec 5.1 active surround sound system, creating a true home cinema experience. A single touchscreen remote controls the entire system—TV, SaorView, satellite, Blu-ray player and audio—offering powerful functionality with a simple, user-friendly interface.

The integrated sound system also covers the large outdoor patio and the beautifully restored Victorian glasshouse, allowing music and media to be enjoyed seamlessly both indoors and out.
