Avid Supercharges Music Notation with Sibelius 2018
Avid announced a new Sibelius software update introducing a host of new features and multi-edit workflows to revolutionize the way musicians mark up their scores.
- Add slurs, hairpins and other lines across multiple staves, and even across several voices too, saving an enormous about of time.
- Adding ties between notes in chords that only have a few notes in common is now supported.
- Multiple barlines can be changed to different types in one go. You can also add system and page breaks to more than one barline at a time too.
- Adding Repeat barlines is now done in one step.
- Extending note duration while editing notes now doesn’t erase the next note, saving valuable time re-entering the note that was deleted previously.
- ‘Find in Ribbon’ has been improved with better layout of search results, and the ability to execute any feature in Sibelius immediately
Introducing Sibelius Users to the Avid Artist Community
Taking advantage of the Sibelius | Cloud Sharing technology inside Sibelius and on the Avid Media Central Platform, Sibelius users can now create a profile on the Avid Artist Community and post and showcase their scores publicly for the world to see. Whether they are a composer, arranger, teacher or engraver, everyone is welcome to display their sheet music. The scores are interactive so play back right in the web browser. These scores are linked back to the customer’s own Sibelius | Cloud Sharing account so changes can be pushed from Sibelius and appear immediately on the Artist Community.
There are many other improvements to Sibelius in the 2018 release. For more information about this and the Artist Community, check out these in-depth blog articles:

Avid Begins #WeR4Music Movement Today at NAMM 2018
Amid more than 100,000 music industry participants at the 2018 NAMM Show, Avid today began the #WeR4Music movement to call attention to the unintended consequences digitization is causing across the entire creative ecosystem of the music industry. The digital era is causing challenges for many songwriters, performers, producers, engineers, promoters, labels, publishers and distributors alike—too often impeding proper recognition and reward for artists’ and creative professionals’ work.
Avid strongly believes that everybody who creates or enjoys music can lift their voice and help foster and encourage fair and equitable solutions for every participant in the ecosystem to ensure that music creation continues to flourish and that the industry prospers overall. The impact and importance of music is undeniable, and it must be protected and enabled to flourish into the future.
While digital technologies have improved many parts of daily life, digital has disrupted many industries, especially the music industry. Nobody in the industry can ignore the challenges of the digital era, but none so much as the many artists and creative professionals who are struggling harder and harder to make a decent living pursuing their craft, or getting their work seen or heard. The music industry’s economy needs to profit from top to bottom, ensuring every participant can realize their creative vision or economic goal.
